Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
FaceAura ("we", "us", or "our") is a face analysis app developed by Romeo Betances. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information — including your rights specifically concerning face data captured via Apple's TrueDepth camera and ARKit frameworks.
By using FaceAura, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Face Data & TrueDepth Camera APIs
FaceAura uses Apple's TrueDepth camera, ARKit (ARFaceTrackingConfiguration), and Apple Vision frameworks to detect and analyze your face. This section describes exactly how that face data is collected, used, shared, retained, and deleted in compliance with Apple's guidelines (App Store Review Guideline 5.1.1(i) and Apple Developer Program License Agreement §3.3.3(C) and §3.3.3(K)).
What Face Data Is Collected
- Depth map data — Captured in real time by the TrueDepth sensor to model the 3D geometry of your face.
- Facial landmarks & geometry — Positions of facial features (eyes, nose, jawline, etc.) extracted by ARKit and Apple Vision, used to compute symmetry, proportions, and beauty metrics.
- Camera frames (RGB) — Live video frames used for real-time analysis and, for premium users, to generate an AI beauty report.
- AR face mesh — Used exclusively for the AR Makeup try-on feature to overlay cosmetics in real time.
Intended Uses of Face Data
- Computing facial symmetry, harmony, and feature scores entirely on your device.
- Generating your personal beauty analysis and skin-type recommendations.
- Powering the AR Makeup try-on feature (real-time overlay only; no image is saved from AR mode).
- For Premium subscribers who activate the Advanced Beauty Report: sending an anonymized face image and numeric scores to Google's Gemini AI API to generate personalized recommendations (see §2 — Sharing below).
Face Data Sharing
Raw depth map data and live AR face mesh data are never transmitted off your device. They are processed entirely in device memory and discarded immediately after each computation.
The one instance of face data leaving your device occurs when a Premium subscriber explicitly activates the Advanced Beauty Report:
AI Beauty Analysis (Premium Beauty Report)
When you request an Advanced Beauty Report, FaceAura processes a compressed face photograph (JPEG) and anonymized numeric feature scores through an AI model to generate your personalized recommendations. No name, email address, device identifier, account identifier, or any other personal identifier is included. The image is used solely to produce your beauty report and is not used for advertising, profiling, or any other purpose.
Equal Protection Commitment: Any infrastructure used to process face data provides a level of protection that is the same as, or greater than, the protections described in this Privacy Policy. Face data is never processed for purposes beyond generating your requested report.
Face Data Retention
- Raw TrueDepth / depth map data: Never stored. Processed in memory and discarded immediately after each scan session ends.
- AR face mesh data: Never stored. Exists only in memory while the AR Makeup feature is active.
- Scan result thumbnail (JPEG): A small face thumbnail is stored locally on your device as part of your scan history record (maximum 30 records via SwiftData). Older records are automatically deleted when the limit is reached.
- Numeric feature scores: Stored locally with each scan history record. Never transmitted off-device except when generating a Premium beauty report (see above).
Face Data Deletion & Revoking Consent
You have full control over your face data at any time:
- Delete scan history — Go to Settings → History → Clear within FaceAura. This permanently deletes all stored scan thumbnails and scores from your device.
- Delete your account — Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account and all associated data.
- Revoke camera & TrueDepth access — Go to iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera → FaceAura and disable access. FaceAura will immediately stop accessing the camera and TrueDepth sensor. No further face data will be captured.
- Uninstall the app — Removing FaceAura from your device deletes all locally stored scan data, thumbnails, and preferences immediately.
Once face data or scan records are deleted using any of the above methods, they cannot be recovered.

3b. Sent to Third-Party Services
When you activate the Advanced Beauty Report, FaceAura processes an anonymized face photograph (JPEG) and numeric feature scores through an AI model. No personal identifiers are included. This data is used solely to generate your beauty report. See §2 for full details and the equal protection commitment.
FaceAura uses a third-party authentication service to manage Apple Sign-In and anonymous guest sessions. This service receives a device-generated anonymous identifier and, if you sign in with Apple, the anonymized user token provided by Apple (Apple does not share your real email unless you choose to). Your authentication state is stored securely.
RevenueCat processes your in-app purchase and subscription status. They receive a device identifier and App Store transaction data to verify and manage your entitlements. No face data is shared with RevenueCat. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
Subscriptions are billed through Apple. Apple handles all payment processing. No payment information is ever seen or stored by FaceAura.
4. Information We Do NOT Collect
- No name, email address, or phone number (Apple Sign-In provides only an anonymized token)
- No location data
- No advertising identifiers or tracking pixels
- No analytics SDKs (no Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, etc.)
- No raw depth map data or AR face mesh is ever stored or transmitted
- No photos are saved to any external server without your explicit action (Premium Beauty Report)
- No biometric identifiers (Face ID templates, fingerprints)
5. How We Use Your Information
- Scan results & scores — to display your history, score trends, and progress dashboard
- Face image & scores (Premium AI Report) — to generate your personalized beauty report via Google Gemini AI
- Notification preferences — to schedule your daily scan reminder locally on-device
- Authentication token — to link your data to your account and enable secure sign-in
- Subscription status — to unlock premium features via RevenueCat
We do not sell, rent, or share your data for advertising purposes.
6. Data Storage and Security
All scan data is stored locally using SwiftData on your device. FaceAura enforces a maximum of 30 stored scan records; older records are automatically deleted when the limit is reached.
Network requests to Google Gemini AI and RevenueCat are made over encrypted HTTPS connections. No face data is transmitted in plain text.
Revoking camera permissions in iOS Settings will immediately stop FaceAura from accessing the TrueDepth sensor and camera.
7. Your Rights
- Delete your scan data — Settings → History → Clear inside FaceAura
- Delete your account and all data — Settings → Account → Delete Account
- Revoke camera / TrueDepth access — iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera → FaceAura
- Cancel subscription — iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → FaceAura
- Remove all local data — Uninstall FaceAura from your device

8. Children's Privacy
FaceAura is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information or face data from children. If you believe a child has used the app, please contact us at betances002@gmail.com and we will take appropriate action.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes — particularly to how face data is collected, used, or shared — we will update the Effective Date at the top of this document. Continued use of FaceAura after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
